Today’s poem selected from those freely available at Phil J. Coates Poetry

Moor

Toiled the unmoving horizon
Bone bare stone walls
Carved and blasted
Persian clipped grass pillows
Gorse, bracken, heather
Snagged and smothered

Accused by the wind
Clouds ragged pursuit
Leaf-birds thrown and tumbled
Trees flinch frozen
Screams blown asunder
No answer can save you

Beyond the swell and hollow
Cold clean water
Voiced hidden ways
Sword grass warned
Clay clutched hungry
Beyond a sea of silence

Our naked insignificance
Broke bread with numb fingers
Solemn sheep staring
Profound incomprehension
Death was swallowed
Earth paid homage

Forgotten stone sentries
Post irons empty
The rubble road of an ancient wake
Still walking silent
End unknowable

Phil J. Coates Creative began as one person's project, a space to publish poems, drawings, and ideas that didn't quite fit anywhere else. It's since grown into a small but evolving business.

With careful research, good writing, new authors, new ideas and discernment, we aim to be interesting, intelligent and truthful… a little out of the main current.
